Bourgade is 50!

I was in the first graduating class of Bourgade Catholic High School - Phoenix Arizona.  Our class started out with only us  - the freshmen - that was  50 years ago... We graduated with about 129 students that first class.  We are a wonderful group of friends all of us men and women. We always had fun no matter if boyfriend or girlfriend.. just ALL friends.  To celebrate the 50 years of the Bourgade's beginning the school had a 3 day reunion for all classes.  I must say our class year - the best one - had the most attendees.

Bourgade Freshman Initiation Beanie Look
Since we were in the first class we had no upper class to put us through an initiation.  The School decided to make us wear beanies  with school colors of Tan and Blue - both the girls and the boys - for a long period of time. They actually were not bad.  The outfit you see above is the uniform that would have been worn by the boys - minus the name tag of course.  My friend Mike Vasquez came dressed initially to the party as a true Bourgade student.  The boys had to wear white dress shirt - tie - (notice the belt  and the pants pulled up and shirt tucked in) - black pants and black shoes.  We had no cafeteria to serve food - thus the sack lunch and some books.  The girls had wool skirts with box pleats (very nice on the body,  not all those little pleats like St Francis)  The length of the skirt was when you kneel down the skirthad to touch the floor, white shirt with square collar and a wool box jacket to match skirt.  We could wear most any shoes - most were saddle shoes - (If you are too young to know what that means  - Google it!) We could have no makeup the first two years.... but we did not need it at that age.

Great job Mike.... later he dressed in very nice attire for the dinner and dance.

Bourgade 1966 Class   attendees for the Reunion

1966 Bourgade Lady Graduates

We had a cookout with Brats and Hamburgers - Beer, Soda etc and the Home coming game on Friday night.  Saturday they had a dinner dance - great food stations and music.  As everyone can attest I LOVE to dance... I drug every man I could out to dance... We come from the day of real dancing and they all still have great moves.   What fun we had.

Some of our Letter men - still fits!

We were able to see some people who have never been back for a reunion.  We talked the night away along with the dancing.

Sunday morning there was a mass in the outside quad at the school  and a breakfast brunch.

Probably the most fun of this whole time was that we did not have to work or do a thing - just show up.

I come from a fabulous group of life long friends.... I hope you all have that in your life also.... Can't wait for our 50th class reunion... It will be here before you know it!
